It’s Official – Danica has come to NASCAR!

Well, it’s not a rumor anymore.  Danica Patrick is coming to NASCAR in
2010!

I wrote in September of this year that she was exploring the
possibility.  Much of the information had
her signing on with one of the top teams in the sport.  I was really leaning towards Tony Stewart
since he had the straight ties to open wheel racing.  But, as it turned out, he was just someone
who could give good input on the decisions before her.

The announcement today unveiled her Nationwide Series ride,
the #7 Chevrolet fielded by JR Motorsports.
Dale, Jr. combined with his sister Kelly, Tony Eury, Jr. and the
influence of Rick Hendrick will provide a credible entrance.  But, the expertise of driving, starting with
her 1st ARCA Series race will begin to reveal the level of talent
she possesses.  If you took a poll right
now, the odds would be slanted strongly towards failure considering the
experiences of her protégés Dario Franchitti and Sam Hornish, Jr. (although in
the grand scheme of things, Sam is beginning to figure it out).

Danica’s entry into our sport does have one vital piece
often found missing in our current economic environment– A Major sponsor – godaddy.com.  She is an Icon for this company and has made
them some sizeable coin as their spokesperson.
And, given her limited schedule, the presentation of the product on
these weekends will most likely be second only to the Superbowl ads.

Most successful people will tell you that there is a direct
correlation between risk and reward. The bigger the risk – the bigger the
reward.  This will certainly factor into
this endeavor by Ms. Patrick.  The
biggest risk for her is that there will be a very small window for error.  She will be under scrutiny like none before
her, male or female.  But, I am one who
believes she can make something from this opportunity.

February 6th and her first race at the Daytona International Speedway is not that far off.  Is there enough ink in production to cover
the miles of verbiage that will be flowing between now and then?  I don’t know, but you have to admit, it’ll be
a media circus!
